Comments: The introduction of Red drum in Martinique had been motivated by the fact that its domestication was practically acquired in the USA and that this could result in the development of marine aquaculture in a short time. Moreover, its reproduction (strictly controlled) based on seasonal cycles. In case of accidental escape from the aquaculture farms, the species had little chance to establish in the ecosystem. The start of marine aquaculture is a socio-economic necessity in this region where the insularity and the demography have resulted to important efforts in fisheries on the benthic resources.     Ref:  FAO, 1997
